how it started
Waveindex started a number of years ago.
I'd been on a great surfing holiday. The waves had been near perfect and my surfing really improved.
Returning home I was frustrated. I wanted to continue where I'd left off but knew i'd find it difficult to score clean waves on a regular basis.
I started looking for a foolproof, easy way to get it right every time I headed to the coast.
Working for an IT company, I decided to build a database containing my regions surf spot information. I was bored and it beat what they had me doing in the office!!
I realised that the database provided a way to answer very specific questions about the surf in my region. For example ...
"It's low tide this morning, there's a north swell and we've got southerly winds. Which spots will have good clean waves in these conditions?"
Excited,
I started to make the right calls and to score more and more clean, peeling sessions.
I decided to add more regions, verifying data with respected sources. The model got more and more useful and
I spent large chunks of spare time visiting different regions and testing results.
At this stage only mates knew about waveindex and we were all reaping the rewards.
The more people I saw struggling to surf
in ropey conditions the more I wanted to make waveindex available to others.
I decided to share what I had ....
